Alternatives when a teeth whitening procedure simply isn’t enough.
For the majority of people who are looking to give the appearance of their teeth a bit of a boost, our popular teeth whitening procedure is usually the first option.
This fast acting, simple and affordable procedure will certainly make a significant improvement to the whiteness of your smile.
What though, when this isn’t enough?
Some of our Clapham Junction and Battersea patients have, in the past, come to us with teeth that were very badly stained, sometimes from years of smoking, others with chips and cracks in their teeth, and asked us for the standard whitening procedure. Because we always aim to provide the best results for our patients, it simply would not have been honest to just go ahead with this treatment.
Where the teeth are very badly stained, whilst a whitening procedure would improve them, it would only do so to a certain degree, and would almost certainly fall short of the patient’s hopes and expectations. Where the teeth are chipped or cracked, whitening would very likely simply highlight these faults.
When patients come to us with teeth with the conditions mentioned above, our dental team at the Confidental Clinic in Clapham will usually recommend dental veneers as a preferable option in order to attain the best results. Where the front enamel of the teeth is heavily stained or damaged, the only realistic viable option is to replace it, and this is done using dental veneers. After administering a local anaesthetic to ease any discomfort, our cosmetic dentist will remove a fine layer of enamel from the front of the affected teeth, using a dental burr. Impressions are then taken and sent to a dental laboratory, for the veneers to be produced.
This usually takes a week or so, and, in the meantime, temporary veneers will be used to protect the teeth. Once the veneers are returned to our practice, we will recall you to have them fitted. To do this, the temporary veneers are removed and the new porcelain veneers attached using strong dental cement.
Finally, the veneers will be trimmed and polished to make them indistinguishable from your natural teeth, albeit whiter and in much better condition!
Following the procedure, there may be a little extra sensitivity for a short period, but this will ease soon afterwards. So if you have badly stained or chipped teeth and would like to improve your smile, please call the Confidental Clinic on 020 7801 9060 and ask about our excellent dental veneers.
