A new set of secure teeth in just one day, using the all on 4 procedure at Confidental Clinic, Clapham.
Nowadays, it is extremely rare indeed to see anybody who has no teeth at all. Some of this is due to better oral health advice undoubtedly, but, even with this, many people will lose teeth for one reason or another.
In virtually all cases, when people lose a visible tooth or teeth, they will seek to replace them with an artificial tooth or teeth.
Whilst there are a number of ways this can be done in the case of individual tooth loss; when a large number, or a full arch, have been lost, the options are reduced.
Traditionally, the best ‘fix’ for this problem was to wear dentures.
These certainly fulfil an aesthetic role and, especially with modern dentures such as the cosmetic dentures available at the Confidental Clinic in Clapham, a person’s appearance can be transformed through their use.
Even with cosmetic dentures though, which are more secure than traditional dentures, some people experience a lack of confidence when wearing them, especially when eating and during conversation.
Because dentures are also in contact with the gum and can move in the mouth a little, they have been known to cause sore gums and general discomfort. It should be said that not everybody experiences these issues but they are well documented.
A more recent tooth replacement option is the dental implant. These offer a strong and secure option to replace a missing teeth.
To replace a full arch of teeth though, with individual implants, would be both time consuming and very costly.
This is where the ‘teeth in a day’ or ‘all on 4’ procedure comes into it’s own.
By placing four dental implants into the patient’s jawbone; two standard implants at the front and two specially designed implants in the rear, a fixed bridge can be attached to these immediately after placement.
Whereas individual implants need to be allowed to bond with the bone for approximately three months, the special design of the rear implants means that the bridge can be attached immediately.
This reduces the amount of time that needs to be spent at our Clapham dental practice and allows the patient to resume a normal life almost straight away.
Whilst this approach to teeth replacement means that the patient should not feel restricted with regards to their eating habits, it is almost inevitable that there will be some soreness immediately following the procedure, and it is advisable to eat soft foods initially and gradually work up to harder foods.
