Restoring Whiteness To ‘Yellow’ Teeth

Our Clapham cosmetic dentists can bring back your youthful smile!

Have you ever wondered why your teeth have become a shade of yellow as you get older? Some of this may be due to consumption of tooth staining foods and drinks and smoking will of course, have stained the teeth, but even with the ‘purest’ of diets, most of us will find that our teeth appear more discoloured as we get older.

The reality is that this is due to changes inside the tooth. The softer internal tissues start to darken over time and it is this which gives our teeth their sometimes yellowish appearance.

Toothpastes

Brushing your teeth well is essential in order to have healthy teeth, and it will also help to remove some staining too. Unfortunately, regular brushing will do nothing to lighten the inner part of your teeth. There are some toothpastes which are designed to do this however, but due to health and safety restrictions, these have limited results. Indeed, the most that we have seen such products claim to do is to whiten your teeth by “up to” three shades. Compare that to the eight shades that our custom home whitening kits can achieve and we are sure that you can deduce which will produce the better results.

Home whitening

At the Confidental Clinic in Clapham, we offer patients an excellent method of whitening their teeth in their own home. Our home whitening kits are made individually for each patient, an important factor in avoiding potential burning to the lips and gums. Impressions are taken of the patient’s teeth and used to produce close fitting, but comfortable trays into which the whitening gel is placed. The trays are then worn at home for a few hours each day, with full results being seen in just a few weeks.

If, at any point during the process, you feel that you have achieved the whiteness that you are happy with, you can simply stop the treatment at that point. Some patients do prefer a very obvious whiteness, whilst others are happy with less ‘brilliant’ white results.

Ongoing whiteness

One benefit of the home whitening kit is that, once you have completed the initial whitening process, you will still have your custom trays available for future whitening should you decide to do so as the whiteness fades over time. We can supply you with more whitening gel on request. We do recommend that you do this and do not buy whitening gels over the internet as these could potentially be very dangerous.
