Addressing Thinning Lips And Other Signs Of Ageing
Safe and effective facial aesthetics at our Clapham dental practice.
If you hadn’t visited a dental practice in the UK for a number of years, you might be surprised to notice that some, including ourselves, now also offer facial aesthetics as well as both general and cosmetic dentistry. On the surface, this may initially seem a little strange but actually fits in well with our approach of helping patients achieve the look that they wish for.
The clean and hygienic environment of a dental practice also makes this an ideal safe space for these treatments to be carried out with minimal risk of infections for the patient.
At the Confidental Clinic in Clapham, we have a dedicated team who are trained to carry out facial aesthetics procedures such as anti wrinkle treatments and dermal fillers. Of these, the anti wrinkle treatments, such as Botox, are perhaps the most well known. However, in this blog, we will take a look at how dermal fillers, a slightly less well known option, can be used to give you a more youthful appearance too.
Reversing ageing signs
As well as skin becoming more wrinkled as we get older, or through other habits such as smoking, for example, there are a number of other visible ‘tell tale’ signs. These include crow’s feet around the eyes, lines from the nose to the lips, lines around the lips as well as thinning lips. The good news is that the appearance of all of these problems can be reduced through the use of dermal fillers.
In order to address these issues, fine injections of Hyaluronic Acid are made into the relevant areas. This is a substance that occurs naturally in our body and helps to improve elasticity. As time advances, or through smoking, pollutants etc, the quantity of Hyaluronic Acid in our body decreases and the symptoms mentioned above start to appear. By replacing this substance, the symptoms can be reversed to a large extent, leaving you with a younger looking appearance.
The injections themselves should cause minimal discomfort although there may be a little localised soreness and possibly bruising for a short period afterwards. We always recommend that patients try to arrange their appointment at a time when they have few social engagements if they are concerned about this. The procedure is extremely safe in the hands of our Clapham dental and facial team, although those who are breastfeeding or are pregnant are not able to have the procedure at this time.
