Five Common Questions About Botox
This popular facial aesthetics treatment is sometimes misunderstood.
A number of patients who visit our Clapham dentists for treatment, have also noticed our offers for facial aesthetics around the practice and have expressed an interest. Whilst discussing this treatment with them, common questions about Botox treatment seem to arise regularly. In today’s blog, we look at five of the most often asked questions about Botox which we hope will help those looking into the various options.
Can I prevent wrinkles from appearing if I use Botox?
Increasingly, we are seeing Botox used in a preventative manner. There are certain areas of the face where lines are likely to appear as we get older and many patients are targeting these. Rather than waiting for the lines to fully appear, Botox can be administered at the site of the first visible signs, helping prevent wrinkles from appearing for the duration of the effective period of the treatment.
What if I have the treatment and stop? Will the wrinkles be worse?
This is a common myth and the simple answer is no. Whilst you can have ongoing facial treatments; at any time that you decide to stop, your lines and wrinkles will gradually return and proceed at the usual rate. It is likely that people who feel that theirs have become worse have simply become accustomed to having smooth skin and have forgotten what the wrinkles used to look like.
How old do you need to be to have Botox?
There should really be no need to consider Botox until you are in your twenties. This is when the elasticity of your skin slowly starts to become less effective. As a teenager, whilst lines may appear as you smile, the elasticity of your skin will return the smoothness as soon as you stop. Botox is most effective when the lines still appear after you have stopped smiling.
Is Botox just for wrinkles?
Whilst it is true that Botox is most widely used to reduce lines and wrinkles on the face, this is not its only use. It has been shown to be effective in treating problems such as migraine and even excessive sweating. If you have a problem that you have read about where Botox is used as treatment and would like to discuss this with us, our Clapham facial aesthetics team will be happy to do so.
Is Botox treatment just for women?
Not at all. Whilst more women than men currently use this treatment, the number of men using it is growing by the day. Botox works just as well for men as women and many men are now starting to have this treatment, usually from their early thirties. These are not always patients who are doing it purely from an aesthetics angle either. Some men find that when their features become wrinkled, it gives them the appearance of looking angry. This can make them less approachable; a particular problem if you are single! If you are male, and would like to find out how Botox can benefit you, why not pay us a visit to see how we can help?
As with all treatments, it is very important for us that our patients are happy and understand what a treatment entails. Our friendly team will always find the time to answer any questions that you may have.
