Cosmetic Bonding is a type of Cosmetic Dentistry. It can be used to reshape the teeth and close gaps. It can also be used to cover stains and marks on the teeth. The material, called Composite, is the same material which is used to fill teeth so is very strong. It is available in a variety of shades so it can be matched to your existing teeth colour. This material is very pliable and can be moulded easily into the correct position before set hard with an ultra violet light. It is then polished so it feels smooth like part of your own tooth.
How much does it cost?
Cosmetic Bonding depends on how much of the tooth surface needs to be built up and the effect you wish to achieve. The Cosmetic Dentist, after a full dental assessment, will be able to quote you for this. Many patients on a budget opt for this treatment. It gives great results and is a quick procedure.
How long does treatment take?
Cosmetic Bonding is a quick and simple procedure carried out by our Cosmetic Dentist here in Clapham Junction, Battersea. There is no need to be numbed up as the treatment is completely pain free. In as little as an hour we can transform your smile. If you wish, you can whiten your teeth for 2 weeks before the Bonding appointment. We can then match your Bondings to your new tooth shade.
How long does the Bonding last?
The longevity of this treatment is very hard to determine. Depending on where the material is placed on your tooth, it can flick or chip off. Once you have had Cosmetic Bonding you have to take care of your teeth even more so. Be aware when biting into foods or even biting your nails. Anything that might make the material come away. Providing you take care, the treatment should last you about 5 years or more. After a period of time and depending on your diet the Bonding will start to discolour. It will also start to chip away. This is something we have no control over. Unfortunately we cannot return it to its original shade so the Bonding will need to be replaced.
There are longer lasting treatment options available which will never stain or discolour such as Porcelain Veneers. Our Treatment Co-Ordinator here at Clapham will be more than happy to sit and discuss this with you.
Cosmetic Bonding can also be carried out after Orthodontic Treatment. Braces straighten and reposition the teeth but unfortunately will not change the shape. Once you are happy with the new position we can then reshape the teeth using Cosmetic Bonding.
